Welcome to Wakon!
WAKON GIANT ALASKAN MALAMUTES are pure-bred descendants of the
pure M'Loot type of Malamute that lived with the ancient Inuit
peoples in the high Arctic, hundreds of years ago. These giant
'sled-dogs', were as tall as 35" (at the withers) and weighed
over 190 lbs. They were the biggest and strongest sled-pullers
and pack animals with the sweetest, most loving dispositions.
They loved their Inuit owners and protected them from Polar
Bears and endured extreme cold, and blizzards, pulling heavy
loads hundreds of miles. They sometimes stayed in the igloos and
cared for the little children. They made the difference between
life and death for their families, in this harsh most severe of
all habitats!
Marlene Ross of Wakon Giant Alaskan Malamutes has devoted 60
years of her life to the preservation of these magnificent,
loving, Gentle Giants of the North! She is responsible for
saving them from extinction and has never compromised her values
to the whims of human ignorance that more often destroys or
changes or reduces in size and quality the breed of dog they
choose to 'breed'. Through the incorrect genetic manipulation by
people who don't know much about genetics, many breeds of dogs
today are of inferior size and quality, as well as very badly
tempered and are a very sad replica of their original stature
and heritage! Today many people are not dedicated to a pure bred
Alaskan Malamute, and are mixing other breeds of dogs with these
magnificent Giants to render them extinct!
Because WAKON GIANT ALASKAN MALAMUTES are never "in-bred", they
are the original, unique, type of Giant Alaskan Malamute
demonstrating the most intelligent, devoted, sweetest, loving
dispositions typical of their ancestor's Arctic Heritage.
My complete dog facility and all of my dogs are inspected every
year by the Animal Control Division of Snohomish County. Due to
the cleanliness and spaciousness of my facility, the happiness
and overall well being of all my dogs and my complete compliance
with all state and county laws qualifies me for a Commercial
Kennel License! I have been issued this legal document every
year for almost 60 years, and I am very proud of this
achievement!
WAKON GIANT ALASKAN MALAMUTES love children and are the best of
family dogs! They have a "fun" personality and want to please
you and be with you all the time. You are their 'pack-leader';
they need your instructions and discipline. They bring so much
joy into your life with their love and devotion, you will always
be amazed at how they changed your life, and you will always
want to have a WAKON GIANT ALASKAN MALAMUTE to look upon and
love each day! For hundreds of years, these Malamutes have been
spoken of in reverence by the ancient indigenous peoples. They
really speak to your soul and are TRULY the 'Sacred Ones'!!
Customer Letters:
Marlene,
Thank you for the wonderful Malamutes that I got from Wakon. I
cannot express enough how amazing both of these magnificent
animals are. They certainly will keep you entertained with all
of their playfulness. I have owned & raised several breeds
of the dogs over the years including some wonderful Siberian
Huskies but none of them come close to being in the league with
characteristics of these beautiful animals. These are some of
the most loving pets a person could have. I would also like to
thank you very much for all of your suggestions & help with
any questions I have had. It has been a real pleasure doing
business with you & allowing me to be in a small-way part of
your extended Wakon family. I thank you for keeping this breed
in such a true native form. I had planned for several years on
getting a Wakon Malamute & I certainly wasn't disappointed.
These gentle giants are a true blessing & will always
receive a tremendous amount of love & affection. May God
Bless You in all you do. Thanks, Larry

Dear Marlene,
I just wanted to share some pictures of Marley with you. She is
now 7 months old and is still growing like a weed! She is almost
as tall as our King Shepherd, Logan, and can now match him when
it comes to wrestling. They get along wonderfully together.
Marley is everything I expected her to be - smart, sweet,
stubborn and cuddly. She learns very quickly and is smart enough
to decide when to obey and when to outright defy me. In the end,
though, she always does what she's told, even if she tries to
get away with things. She is basically a very good puppy.
I just love her disposition. She has the right amount of
independence mixed in with a great big dollop of devotion and
loyalty. She is so affectionate that I call her my Velcro
dog. Marley loves to curl up next to me and be hugged, and
she follows me everywhere. She's great with strangers and other
dogs and will play for hours on end.
Marley goes to the vet this coming Friday to have her upper baby
canines extracted. They never fell out when the adult canines
came in, and the vet is worried they could cause problems down
the road. They'll give her a very light anesthesia and she'll be
able to come home a few hours after the procedure. I'll get her
weighed on Friday when I take her in. Her last weigh-in, which
was only a few weeks ago, she was 78.9 pounds, so I'm expecting
her to be 85-90 pounds by now. She is a very big girl!
I hope all is well with you. I'm sure you're looking forward to
spring - I know we are!
Take care,
Laura

Dear Marlene:
I am writing this letter, long overdue, to let you know about
Bandit, one of your beautiful Giant Malamute puppies that we
were blessed to get almost four years ago this May. I cannot
begin to tell you how wonderful this dog is and how blessed we
are to have him.
Bandit is everything and more than you promised. He is a gentle
giant with a heart the size of Kansas and the temperament of a
lamb. He is at once playful, obedient, fun-loving, energetic and
always of the gentlest kindest nature. He has such an endearing
personality and is such a gorgeous dog that people are
constantly stopping us on the street to inquire as to "what kind
of dog is he, where did you get him from and most commonly, can
we pet him?" Bandit has never shown any form of aggression and
literally plays with any and all dogs. He loves people, dogs,
and for some reason, has a total fascination with horses... not
that he sees a lot of horses in the city! He suffers (kidding)
the constant petting, the numerous compliments and requests to
have his picture taken with great dignity and aplomb.
Bandit is a total joy. He was very trainable, easy to maintain
and a very energetic, happy and healthy dog. He has such a
personality that I constantly find myself talking to and
confiding in him.... He is the best therapy in the world. You
promised the "gentlest and most outgoing dog" and you were true
to your word. We love Bandit and he is a cherished part of our
family. I cannot begin to tell you, Marlene, how much joy and
enjoyment he has brought to our home and to our hearts. Both my
husband and I thank you so very much for all your hard efforts
and for the absolutely beautiful dogs that you are breeding and
bringing into the lives of people like us!
We thank you, Marlene and just wanted you to know what a great
job you have done and how grateful we are! Kudos to you and
please, keep on raising those Mals for another fifty years. They
leave an indelible mark on our hearts!
Proud & Grateful Owners,
Wayne & Mary
